Site 7 – Gist’s Plantation

Continue on SR 2021 for 4.2 miles and turn right where the road ends at the Connellsville Road.  About 2.5 miles along this road, look for the ramp leading to U.S. 119.  Take U.S. 119 north for 1.2 miles where you will find an historical marker for Gist’s Plantation where Braddock camped on the night of June 27-28, 1755.  Christopher Gist was an early frontiersmen employed by the Ohio Company, a land speculation consortium based in Virginia.  He served as a scout for Braddock’s army.  His plantation had been destroyed a year earlier by Indians during George Washington’s ill-fated campaign in Western Pennsylvania.
