Site Twenty – Crossing the Monongahela

To follow Braddock’s route on the last leg of its westward march, return to Lincoln Way and turn right for 0.6 mile to where Lincoln Way ends by joining with Rte. 148. Follow Rte. 148 about 0.5 mile and take SR 837 right toward Duquesne. As you cross the Duquesne Bridge over the Monongahela, try to imagine Braddock’s 1300 men fording the knee-deep water on July 9. An historical marker, long missing, was located near this bridge. |
